Hire 1099 contractors without the contract, W-9, and 1099 paperwork.

Send a contract in 60 seconds. Pay through Stripe escrow. We collect every W-9 at onboarding and Stripe files your 1099-NEC at year-end.

  • Stripe-Powered Payments
  • Stripe Escrow
  • W-9 Collection Automated
  • 1099-NEC at Year-End
  • Live in 50 states + DC

Built on Stripe + IRS-compliant W-9/1099-NEC. Six states on Tier-1 waitlist (CA, NJ, MA, IL, CT, WA) — automatic onboarding holds until additional classification-rule review clears.

The Problem

Paying a contractor isn't one job. It's five.

Write a contract. Collect a W-9. Agree on terms. Hold pay until the work's done. File a 1099-NEC by January 31st. Most businesses do steps three and four, skip the rest, and hope the IRS doesn't notice.

The average cost of getting it wrong at scale: a 2 a.m. text to your accountant in February. The cost of using PayWelly: $19.99 once, when you actually hire someone.

The Platform

One platform replaces four tools.

Stop juggling a contract template, a W-9 PDF, Venmo, and your CPA. PayWelly handles the full lifecycle in one place.

Instant Contracts

Per-engagement contracts e-signed in under 60 seconds. Master ICA + state-specific addenda assemble automatically. PDF stored against the engagement record.

Stripe Escrow

Funds held in Stripe Connect Express custodial accounts. Released to the contractor on completion — never sooner.

W-9 Automation

Stripe Identity collects every W-9 at onboarding. You can't pay a contractor without one. Zero paperwork from you.

1099-NEC Filed for You

Every contractor crossing the $2,000 annual threshold gets a 1099-NEC filed automatically through Stripe.

Same-Day Payouts

Funds release same-day to debit card; 1–3 business days standard ACH. Choose the speed when you connect Stripe.

Engagement Hub

In-app messaging with masked phone numbers. Your contractors never get your cell. Nothing leaves the platform.
How it works

From hire to paid in four steps.

  1. Step 1: Send the contract

Pick the contractor. Auto-fill terms. They e-sign in two taps. Master ICA + state addenda attach automatically.

  2. Step 2: Fund the escrow

$19.99 + the contract amount + 15% is charged when you accept their application. Stripe holds it.

  3. Step 3: The work happens

Off-platform. Message in-app. Overtime requires your approval before it bills.

  4. Step 4: They get paid. You’re 1099-ready.

Funds release same-day to debit card (1–3 business days standard ACH). Every payment counts toward their 1099 automatically.

FAQ

Three questions you’re probably about to ask.

15% sounds steep. Is it really worth it?

A staffing agency markup is 35–60%. A CPA preparing 1099s charges around $50 per form. PayWelly's 15% includes the contract, the W-9 collection, the Stripe escrow, the in-app messaging, identity verification, and the 1099-NEC filing — all-in. The math works if you're paying a contractor more than about $200 and care about not getting audited.

What if my state isn't covered yet?

PayWelly is live in a growing list of U.S. states and DC. Sign up to confirm coverage for your state — most enrollments today are landing within weeks. If your state is on our Tier-1 waitlist (the highest-classification-risk states where we hold automatic onboarding until additional review clears), we'll email you the day it opens.

What if I'm already using QuickBooks Contractor Payments?

Keep using it for long-term retainer contractors. Use PayWelly for one-off and short-term engagements where you need a contract, escrow, and a 1099 — the three things QuickBooks can't do natively.

Who files the 1099-NEC?

Stripe files 1099-NEC for any contractor crossing the $2,000 annual threshold. You see year-to-date totals in your dashboard so there are no January surprises.

Are PayWelly contractors employees?

No. PayWelly is not an employer, staffing agency, merchant of record, or labor broker. Every engagement is governed by an attorney-reviewed Independent Contractor Agreement.

Send your first contract in 60 seconds.

No subscription. No card on file. The first time you'll pay anything is when you actually hire someone.
